A reissue of this classic punk rock record from Chicago's seminal s quartet. All six tracks from the original issue, plus eight bonus cuts, including a cover of Wire's "12XU. Probably my least favorite of the Naked Raygun reissues, but it is the start of what became a great band.

Chicago's Naked Raygun was one of the encouraging new punk bands that bloomed in the Midwest long after thrash had apparently isolated the punk aesthetic in its own circumscribed ghetto, where it would never again challenge the musical values of regular folk. All of these bands expanded the boundaries and cast aside some of the trappings of punk to bring it back into contact with the mainstream. If none of them ever attained huge success, all at least appealed to adventurous people who don't have mohawks.

Screaming vocals, piercing guitars, rolling drums, and snapping basslines show up in each take. Despite the apparent simplicity, there are hints of what lie ahead in Naked Raygun's future. It is doubtful that the stop-start, smooth-rough passages that provide the frame for "Potential Rapist" could be pulled off by anyone else, save for an artist like Gang of Four.
Even Dave Grohl has waxed philosophic about the legendary group on a recent episode of "Sonic Highways", which is pretty awesome indeed to see the band getting some seriously overdue exposure and recognition on HBO. This is Naked Raygun's first record and it is the original Ruthless Records vinyl press from The vinyl is in excellent condition - I just played it and it sounds fantastic. Super quiet and it sounds smashing.

Moreover, the film aspect also focuses on the history and influence of Chicago's independent and punk scene, even though it was often, and still, overlooked by punk historians and more recently, documentary filmmakers. The CD portion of the release will feature live highlights from their shows since Naked Raygun's reunion at Riot Festand will include all of the songs most identified with Naked Raygun.
